Oxford or Harvard? No. Takshshila and Nalanda? Yes. Several hundred years before Christ, people from all over the globe came here and participated in the interactive process of learning.
Who discovered Zero to Nine?
They were discovered in India. Algebra, trigonometry, quadratic equations et al. Albert Einstein, the greatest mind of the 20th Century, said, ‘We owe a great deal to India; it taught us how to count.’ Leave alone the invention of calculators and computers, no worthwhile scientific discovery, invention, pursuit or mission was possible without these discoveries.
India’s contributions to medicine are equally impressive. The first formal school of medicine: Ayurveda, was born eternity ago, Sushruta, father of surgery was born in India 2000 years ago.
In commerce India discovered the hundi, while China gave birth to currency paper in the 9th Century. So, in science, in spirit, in mathematics, in commerce, in creativity, India was indeed always signing. In was shining to such a compelling degree that an Oxford don, Ferdinand Orkester observed” ‘India is Cinderella of Civilization.’
It’s our thought process and variety of influences which have shaped Indian culture and spirit of tolerance, history, philosophy, perception, practice, sports, belief and behavior, dance and drama, art and craft, theatre and music et al has enable Indians to coexist 5000 years.
The spirit of India is in the people, the people of different cultures and religions and their stories which can impact the way of the world.
